Breaking free from the chains of addiction

Recovery is a term used to describe addicts who are in sobriety (no longer using substances/ psycho active drugs like marijuana, heroin, cocaine, alcohol, pethidine, crack, kachwili, etc). These people take all measures possible to stay substance free. Recovery Uganda was started by a group of people in recovery, together with significant others who have lost their loved ones to addiction and its consequences

Focus On Recovery Uganda believes that information is power. Through this magazine, many can be helped. This magazine aims at prevention, intervention and recovery from substance abuse

We have noticed that very many people are getting trapped in this abyss of addiction due to lack of information. So, as Peer Supporters, we have decided to share and empower one another through our recovery journey for we have lived and done it all. Believing that the best counselor is that one who has ever experienced the same, we have come up to share and spread the message of hope and recovery through various existing media avenues; that is both print and electronic media

Our outreach programs also run in schools, churches, organizations, treatment centers (rehabs) and other platforms where we are invited to share the recovery (sobriety) message. Here we conduct sensitization and psycho education sessions to create a deeper understanding on what substance use and addiction is as a disease. We also reach out to the victims carers’ (those affected by the loved ones addiction problem), for they go through psychological, physical and social problems together.

Addiction itself is an incurable disease but one can be helped to recover and function normally if supported. This is so because addiction is a relapsing disease, whereby with limited or no support, the addict goes back to square one of using the substances, which he/she had stopped using at some point in time. So, seek recovery and help another recover.
